On this episode, Kate and Dennis are joined by returning guest Caitlin and new guest Karen as we go over the classic series The Vision of Escaflowne in honor of the 20th anniversary of the series finale and just before the re-release of the series on bluray by Funimation. We find out Karen's anime origins, go over old convention war stories, talk about some of our favorite Ocean Group dub actors, disappointing sequel series to good anime, and that's all before we even talk about this week's anime topic.
We do have some hard hitting questions though. What's up with Van's useless armor? Merle doesn't wear pants? Why does Dennis even remember Monster Rancher? Is Amano secretly a terrible person and athlete? Why does Hitomi think it's a good idea to run "through" Van...again? How does Fanelian steel work? What is the purpose of Allen's puffy shoulders? Did Zaibach invent the equivalent of Skype? Ancient Fanelian technology = ancient Aztec technology? Is Dilandau a giant prude?
Hope you enjoyed our talk about Disc 1 of The Vision of Escaflowne. Remember, don't watch the music videos on this disc. However, the next batch of episodes will have something better... Club Escaflowne.
Thanks to special guests Caitlin (We're Not Twins Cosplay) and Karen (Rya Cosplay).

Okay, for real, see you next time for the first of many The Vision of Escaflowne episodes.
On this episode, Dennis, Ed, and Kate go over the 90s sci-fi on The Sci-Fi Channel anime Iria: Zeiram the Animation. We talk about Iria's brother's actual name in English, the orphan trope: lovable or annoying, the unique world design, failing to come up with a better term for this not-quite-steampunk/not-quite-high-tech setting, James Cameron, and getting Zola'd. Should we watch the live action Zeiram movies in a future episode? Let us know! And reward yourself after listening to this episode with a shower and some snacks.

We go over Ed's first Dragon Con experience, Dragon Con TV, Star Wars Cosplay, What We Do in the Shadows Cosplay, and much more Game of Thrones talk. Valar Morghulis!

On this episode, Kate, Ed, and Dennis go over Gainax's first theatrical release Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise. Kate goes over why she chose it due to a bad convention experience. There's also a big discussion of one scene in particular that did not sit well with any of us. We also talk a little about the Olympics, what new stuff Ed's been watching, Shonen Jump ending Nisekoi and Bleach, along with a little Dragon Con excitement.

On this episode, Dennis, Ed, Eve, and Kate are joined by special guest and friend of the show Garrett, as we go over the late Satoshi Kon's feature debut Perfect Blue. Psychological thriller, murder mystery, pop idols, nudity--some really thought inducing story elements. We also go over 90s technology, celebrity stalking in both Japan and the US, and a surprising Home Alone reference. When you wake up, this podcast will still be going on. Or will it? Are we in the Matrix still? What's real now? Who is this?!

Our third and final episode talking about Bubblegum Crisis. Dennis, Ed, and Kate go over what they thought about the final two episodes, some of the ridiculous bonus features, and find out each other's BGC waifus. We also discuss both Nene and Mackie's growth in the final episode, the non-Saber debate of Sylvie vs Reika, and potential BGC cosplay. Hope you've enjoyed this series as much as we enjoyed discussing it.

Short episode today. Dennis, Ed, and Kate recap some of the events they participated in at this year's Anime Expo, then Eve joins the call as Dennis leaves. The kicker this time? We're all sober. No wine. WHAAAAT?!

On this episode, we continue talking Bubblegum Crisis with OVA episodes 4-6. The AD Police finally start getting their act together. The Knight Sabers make some new friends. One of them threatens to leave?! And Mackie somehow does not get worse. Dennis, Ed, and Kate go into too much episode recap rather than episode discussion, due to the looming threat of Anime Expo panic.

We also go over the state of early anime dubbing in North Carolina, Matlock, influences for Bubblegum Crisis, creepy brother peeping, backstory death flags, American 80s movie reference map, and more. Also, Mackie is the worst.

On this episode, Eve gets to join Dennis, Kate, and Ed in person (yay!), and they're all joined by special guest Caitlin, of We're Not Twins Cosplay. This episode's topic, Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal (aka Rurouni Kenshin first OVA series). We go over the weird use of live action shots, some dub versus sub differences, deep dive seiyuu and voice actor talk, and lots more Kenshin reminiscing. Also, Anime Expo's changing of their background check policy, Hulu dropping some unpopular anime titles from their catalog, and Dennis geeking out over one of Caitlin's influential anime choices.

Dennis, Diana, Ed, and Kate go over one of Diana's favorite anime titles, Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture. It's the first title we have all watched dubbed for this podcast. We also go over terrible anime shirts from Hot Topic, Lollapalooza, and Anime Expo background checks. We also go over why Terry has terrible luck with girlfriends, why Joe can't find love, amazing dub rewrites, magical girl and boy transformations, and if Laocorn really became a god or not. The storm...it's coming.

Dennis and Kate make a quick stop at the Viz headquarters to visit the Animation Marketing Manager Amy! We talk all the new releases of old anime and manga titles, with a special focus on Hunter x Hunter, Sailor Moon, and Ranma 1/2. Amy also has a hot tip on how to stream Viz anime titles on Hulu without needing a Hulu Plus account on your phone or tablet. Finally, pulling back the kimono, not only do we have wine this episode, we're also eating some delicious chocolates.

May the Fourth be with you! No battles in space this episode. Instead we go over another environmental disaster OVA with Green Legend Ran. Also, how not to design a DVD cover along with why implementing a DVD menu is essential, thanks to Pioneer's misstep. Seriously, we go into it for a while. Then, are there even aliens in this anime series universe? Finally, how (not) to survive a biblical flood.

Kate is out and about in Japan, but Sam joins as another regular host as we discuss Wicked City, our impression of watching this 1987 adult thriller OVA under the scope of today's society, especially Makie's treatment in the story. And yes, apologies for confusing Miura-san with Minowa-san. But hey! We have a snoring doggy in the background!

It's the intro episode to the Vintage Anime Podcast! Like older anime? Miss the days when it was a more of a social experience watching with friends? So do we! Come join in our anime club where we'll watch one disk each episode and discuss it over a bottle of wine or two. For this episode, we discuss how we got into and remained in the anime fandom. There's weekday afternoon Toonami reminiscing, Gundam elitism, T-1 college internet, and when Sci-Fi had an anime weekend marathon. Kanpai!
