On this episode, Dennis enlists the help of special guest Jet in order to help Garret, Kate, and Karen make sense of Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Overturue to a New War. We're just going to shorten it to Overture for the rest of this podcast description. We talk what helps Overture stand out from the first two OVA episodes of LOGH, Dennis tries to track who's who with all these nameless characters with lots of speaking lines, Reinhard showing some more character, getting tired of Yang's ho-hum attitude, all of the death flags, love triangles, secret crushes, and Garrett comes clean about the recording for LOGH movie 1. It'll all make sense if you listen. And if not, there's always the Takarazuka Revue version. Pour yourself a glass of red tea and brandy, because once again, we're going to space.
Many thanks to returning special guest Jet (@jetspectacular)

On this episode, join Dennis, Ed, Garret, Kate, and Karen as we take our first dive into one of anime's tougher fandoms to get into: Legend of the Galactic Heroes. We're starting with 1988's pilot OVA/first movie, My Conquest is the Sea of Stars. Two warring factions with their respective brilliant strategists who are still trying to earn the respect of their commanding officers, it's our first look at Yang Wen-Li and Reinhard von Müsel (who later becomes Reinhard von Lohengramm). We make some obvious comparisons to the Gundam, Macross, and Star Blazers franchises, appreciating the classical music after watching Princess Tutu, figuring out if these military tactics are actually brilliant or not, so much laserdisc talk, and too many mentions of skirts. So whether you're taking 5 ships or 8,000 ships for a diversion, we've got you covered.
