Vintage Anime Club Podcast

A group of friends, a disc of anime, a bottle of wine...better make it two. We're an anime podcast taking a look back at some older anime titles on physical media, and seeing if they still hold up or not. Sometimes time lets us appreciate overlooked titles, while other instances require us to remove those rose-tinted glasses. So grab a glass of wine and have a listen.

A group of friends, a disc of anime, a bottle of wine... Better make it two bottles.

Mar 23, 2017

That voice in your ears isn't the Puppet Master, it's the Vintage Anime Club! In a change of plans, Ed, Kate, and Dennis go over the 1995 classic Ghost in the Shell before the 2017 live-action version is released to see if it still holds up. We go over some of the differences between the Special Edition DVD, 2.0, and 25th Anniversary edition (even though Dennis keeps referring it to "20th" instead of 25th). We go over some things that were influenced by this film along with what could have influence this film, same-face character design, scenes as the inspiration for the live action film (based on trailers alone), future tech prediction, and so much diving.

And of course, we go over some of the important characters' voice actors along with the bonus features of the Special Edition DVD.

Sorry for the laptop fan noise. We had to record directly into the laptop instead of using our normal digital recorder.

On this episode, Dennis, Kate, and Ed are joined once again by Karen as we go over the penultimate disc of Bandai's release for The Vision of Escaflowne, episodes 21-23. Hitomi further develops her Vibe powers. Will catgirls ever find love? Does Allen seem more overprotective and controlling to you? Who's that beastman with the long flowing hair (or is it a mane)? Do the brothers reconcile, or is there still too much distrust between them? And we're at (at least we think) the final Club Escaflowne segment.

With special guest Karen (IG: @ryacosplay)
